Community Gardens and Wild Spaces with Mike 'Diesel' Post, Director of Parks and Recreation, City of Salida

March 11th, 2022, 8:30-9:15 am

Diesel Post is currently the Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Salida; but prior to that, he spent time as a High School Principal, Raft Guide, Park Ranger, Commercial Truck Driver, Fly Fishing Guide, Science Teacher, and Auditor. He lives in an authentic adobe house on an old Colorado farm where he, his wife Karina, their sons Porter and Orion, and daughter Gloria care for dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, turkeys, donkeys, worms, vegetables, weeds, foxes, mice and magic. They call it Folk Farm and welcome visitors to come to feed the animals, tend the gardens and pull some weeds.

Community Gardens are a staple in many cities and towns, they provide people in an urban environment the opportunity to tend to our long tradition of gardening. Community gardens also bring wild spaces closer to our tamed towns. Learn about the current state of community gardens in Salida and hear plans for developing future wild spaces.;
