Salida School Garden Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest is contributing to the Salida School Garden Program!

Need and purpose of Volunteers:

Guidestone and partners have developed the Salida School Garden to include just under an acre of production on Salida School District land, which is home to an orchard, raised and in-ground beds, a tool shed, a poly-house, and nineteen 150ft long production rows. The full 4-acre site is fenced for deer protection, and prepared for further expansion this spring! As a primarily non-mechanized operation, most of our work at the Salida School Garden is accomplished by hand, rendering community volunteers an invaluable element of our program and operations!

Position Description

We love love LOVE it when community members have the time and interest to be able to commit to working one volunteer shift a week throughout the growing season. Doing so deepens your understanding of the garden and the community connection, and is a tremendous help in sustaining the program. However we are very grateful for ALL of our volunteers and encourage people plugging in even if they can only attend one shift.

The tasks that the volunteers will tend to vary depending on the season and the day. Tasks can cover a range from bed cleanup, composting, bed forming, irrigation installation, seeding, transplanting, weeding, thinning, pruning, harvesting and washing and packaging produce. No prior experience is required, we will show you how to perform each task. You are welcome and encouraged to bring your friends or family! (Youth under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.)

The times and dates of volunteer shifts are as follows:

Every Wednesday evenings and Friday morning from April 15-Oct 16

Wednesdays from 5-7pm

Fridays from 9-11am

*If you plan to volunteer regularly throughout the season, we highly encourage you to attend the orientation on the first volunteer days of the season, April 15 & April 17.
