Summer Camp Intern Application

Guidestone seeks high school students to be Education Interns for our 3-day garden and ranch camps this summer! We are looking for applicants who enjoy working with younger kids and are friendly and willing to support and encourage campers throughout all activities. Interns will lead team-building activities for a group of up to 20 children (ages 5 and up). Applicants should be enthusiastic, flexible, responsible, and safety-minded, and do not need to have exceptional skills with gardening or agriculture. The position requires availability for at least seven weeks, Tuesdays through Thursdays from May 30-August 10.

Responsibilities and duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Help create a safe, positive, inclusive, and enthusiastic camp environment.
  • Be respectful of participants’ needs, interacting and engaging with each camper.
  • Help participants first, but also engage in daily camp activities oneself.
  • Help with set-up and take-down of activities.
  • Lead a team-building activity at each session.
  • Design an activity to run with campers, try it out and fine-tune it.
  • Participate in reflections with staff at the end of each day.

CLASSIFICATION & CONTRACT

This position will involve a contract for 8 hours/day, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Stipend is $120/day.

ABOUT CAMP

Garden camps will feature opportunities to learn and grow through garden activities and skills, games, movement, reflection, and fun with friends, through themed activities that reflect the garden as it evolves and changes throughout the summer. Garden camps meet at Longfellow Elementary School Garden or Salida Middle School Garden, with travel to other sites such the Monarch Spur Trail and the Community & School Farm.

Homestead and ranch camps feature opportunities to explore and experience life on a homestead and working ranch through animal care, ranch projects, cultural history, skill building, hikes, games, art, songs, journaling and fun. Homestead and ranch Camps meet at the Hutchinson Homestead & Learning Center (on Highway 50, 1 mile west of Walmart).

Guidestone Colorado is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is growing a vibrant agricultural future through education, community building, and partnerships.

CAREER TRACK

These positions are grant-funded through Marijuana Excise Tax Advisory Board (METAB), with support for leadership training through the Chaffee County Youth Alliance. Guidestone will share any opportunities to work with us in the future, and will share further information about jobs with partners such as local ranches, farms, and agricultural support organizations, and will supply a recommendation letter to accompany a resume.
