AgriVoltaics at Jack’s Solar Garden

Byron Kominek is the owner, manager, and developer of Jack’s Solar Garden in Boulder County, Colorado – a premier site for agrivoltaics in the U.S. He is also the Executive Director of the nonprofit, the Colorado Agrivoltaic Learning Center, providing educational opportunities to students, community members, and policymakers about how vegetation, livestock, and people can work within solar arrays. In 2020/2021, he participated in the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s Energy Executives program. He is also fellow in the 2022/2023 CiviCo Governor’s Fellows program.
Byron is a former U.S. diplomat having served in Zambia and Mozambique with the U.S. Agency for International Development where he focused on forestry and wildlife conservation. His background is using natural resource management as a tool to improve human health, economic, and environmental standards. Byron has further served in the Peace Corps in Cameroon and more recently as an international environmental consultant.
Byron has a M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering and speaks French and Portuguese. He is a member of the Flatiron Young Farmers Coalition and the Denver LoDo Rotary Club. He spends his days engaging in agrivoltaics discussions, learning to grow food and keep livestock on his farm, and cultivating community in Boulder County.
