Worm Farming on a Small Scale
Erika Babbitt-Rogers is the owner/operator of Wyoming Worm Wrangler. She was born and raised in Wyoming and now lives in Laramie Wyoming with her family (which includes horses, dogs, chickens, turkeys, ducks, a cat, and of course worms). She was a graduate from the University of Wyoming in 1998 and has been involved with agriculture her entire life. She began raising worms in 2008 to try and help improve soils for gardening and for the hay operation she and her husband were managing. In 2009 people began asking her about raising worms so she started Wyoming Worm Wrangler and began selling worms at the local farmers’ markets. She has been invited to talk at many of the schools in Laramie and the surrounding areas resulting in many of the classrooms now having a worm bin. In 2014 she and her family had to leave the hay farm they had managed for 14 years. This resulted in having to move the entire family in the middle of winter to their new home. 2015 was a year of rebuilding the worm farm. Now that she has her own property she is looking forward to increasing the worm farm, adding more chickens, starting a new small hay operation, adding produce production, and improving the soils on the land. She will always be a strong supporter of farmers’ markets and agriculture.
